I'll start with a quote from my 1st band teacher, Mr. Maurice Williams.. "Boy, if I let everybody play drums that wanna play drums, I'd have a band full of Only Drums. You're playing clarinet." Guess what ..., I played clarinet. I progressed nicely through several woodwind instruments while maintaining a strong passion for the Drums. While my Father was not a Musician, he had a pretty extensive collection of his favorites, which included a “mother-load” of Jazz. Heavy doses of Bird (his favorite, he had EVERY Charlie Parker record), Dizzy, Miles, Gene Ammons, Duke, Oscar, I could go on and on. He had all the music that I did not really appreciate until I was about 20 years old. After playing in Funk bands in my early teens, I had a brief flirtation period with the Electric Bass and Fusion music, though I never lost that passion for the Drums. After that period my focus returned to the Drums. At that point, whenever my Father was his missing records, he had but one phone number to call. Lol
My passion for the Drums has remained at a High Burn, and will until I check out ! I feel it is and Honor and Pleasure each time I sit on the throne.
As a musician, Kevin Gaines represents what the music should be: Spirited, Soulful, and Joyous. His infectious personality comes through in his playing, creating a memorable experience for the listener. It's clearly evident that he's studied the history of the drums, but he's managed to develop a distinguishable identity that lets you know that it's HIM.
When it's Gaines, it ROARS!!"

"Swing, Standards, Latin Jazz and some surprises will be provided by The Kevin Gaines Trio. The leader of the group, Drummer Kevin Gaines needs no introduction. For the last seven years, he has graced the stage of Deltaville's 'Groovin' concert series as a member of the Josh Walker Quartet. A driving and animated Drummer, he always knows exactly what sort of groove to give a song."
